Cases del Batlle. Bernat Capó Library

Les Cases del Batlle” were named as this because it was the mayor’s residence of Benissa. It is formed by the union of two houses from Purissima Street (38th & 40th). Inside of it, there is the village’s library “Bernat Capó” and the Contemporary Art Gallery “Salvador Soria”. In the late one, there is a permanent exposition from the mentioned deceased artist.

The aforementioned houses (16th century) were acquired by the town hall in 1998. The restoration works lasted for ten years. After the works, a set of eight silos, who were dated from the 11th century, were found in the probable “alqueria” (farmstead) that was situated here.
