“Les Cases del Batlle” were named as this because it was the mayor’s residence of Benissa. It is formed by the union of two houses from Purissima Street (38th & 40th). Inside of it, there is the village’s library “Bernat Capó” and the Contemporary Art Gallery “Salvador Soria”. In the late one, there is a permanent exposition from the mentioned deceased artist.
The aforementioned houses (16th century) were acquired by the town hall in 1998. The restoration works lasted for ten years. After the works, a set of eight silos, who were dated from the 11th century, were found in the probable “alqueria” (farmstead) that was situated here.
