Fair. Fira i Porrat de Sant Antoni

FIESTA OFFICIALLY RECOGNISED FOR ITS LOCAL TOURIST INTEREST

It is unsurprising that in Benissa, being an agricultural town, Saint Anthony has been venerated and celebrated since days of yore, and chronicles reflect this as early as the 17th century. Since then, this celebration has come and gone throughout history, and it is currently quite famous and popular. Indeed, it has been declared a festivity of local touristic interest, and it is one of the best-known celebrations in honour of Saint Anthony in the entire Valencia region.

The fair and porrat begin in the second weekend of January with the opening of the attractions, Saint Anthony’s bonfire and the blessing of the animals. Next, the fair attractions last until the last weekend in January, along with sundry activities such as the blessing of a livestock fair and a Medieval market, along with other cultural, festive and sporting events for grown-ups and children alike.
