A speciality that is well known in the Marina Alta area for its high quality is the farmhouse sausage that comes in various varieties: “botifa­rra” (black sausage), “bufa” (black pudding), “blanquet” (white sausage) or “llonganissa” (spicy pork sausage) and can be eaten alone or as an ingredient of traditional recipes.

All these varieties are on sale in the traditional butcher’s shops located in the town.

A long time ago a popular saying affirmed “a Benissa, pilota i missa” (In Benissa, meat balls and mass).
