Patron Saint Festivities

Every year, from the fourth Sunday of April and for a little over a week, Benissa holds its main festivities in grand style, in a heartfelt and devoted manner. These are the festivities in honour of the Purísima Xiqueta, the blessed virgin who became the patron saint of the town in 1864, when a number of miracles that took place there were attributed to her.

Thus, during the last days of April, Benissa undergoes a complete transformation, enlivened by a jam-packed agenda full of events and celebrations. The most outstanding events include the coronation of the queen of the festivities, the procession with the tablet containing the image of the Puríssima Xiqueta, the floral offering, the day in honour of the “riberers” and that in honour of the “fadrins,” but also its concerts, parades, cavalcades, bullfights, fireworks, mascletás, paella cookouts…
