A great plan for the October long weekend: visit Benissa

Immersed in the October long weekend and no plans yet? Well, don't worry because in Benissa you will find what to do.

What to do in the October long weekend in Benissa

In Benissa we offer you an infinite number of plans to enjoy some extra days off, knowing the historic centre and the coast of Benissa.

Visit the historic centre

If you are in the historic centre, we recommend a walk that will take you to the Middle Ages. Benissa has a large number of stately homes in its historic centre, and several of them can be visited: The Casa de los Andrés y Pere Bigot, which houses the University Headquarters of Benissa (SXVIII), les Cases del Batlle (SXVI) that contains an exhibition of contemporary art and the Casa-Museo Abargues (SXVIII-XIX), which still keeps its antique furniture.

Right next to Plaça Jaume I, there is the Cathedral of the Marina, known with this name for being one of the largest churches in the region. The Puríssima Xiqueta (SXX) is a neo-Gothic church and stands out for the grandeur of the two towers and its spectacular lantern tower.

Street market and Mercat dels Porxes

If you are one of those who like genuine things, you cannot miss the weekly Saturday market, where from 8.00 to 13.00 you will find all kinds of fruits and vegetables, pickles, nuts, bakery, plants and flowers, clothes as well as endless food products typical of the Marina Alta region.Where? + Info

Also on the second Saturday of the month (except July and August), you will find in the Plaça Jaume I, the Mercat dels Porxes, a very peculiar market where producers of the area sell their “km 0” products, and where you will find craft beer, clothes for children made with organic textiles, handicrafts, organic wines and vegetables, honey...

In addition, there are activities during the morning such as popular dances, live music, craft workshops… We wait for you from 9.00 to 14.00h!

Commemoration of the 9th of October

The 9th of October is a holiday in the Valencian Community. This holiday commemorates the arrival of Jaume I the Conqueridor (the Conqueror) to Valencian lands. In Benissa we celebrate this fact with a floral offering at the monument to Jaume I, in the square with the same name. The program also includes a Valencian Pelota match in the Trinquet (C / Hort de Bordes) and popular dances enlivened by one of the Colla de dolçainers de Benissa. There are also storytellers for children.

Ecological walk

Do not run out of our coast. Benissa has a walk through which you can see our coves in a different way, it is known as the ecological walk. With 2.6 km long, you can usually start from La Fustera beach, once there you can go north to Cala Advocat, or south to Cala les Bassetes, connecting there with the promenade of Calpe, the neighbouring town.

Walking trails

If you are more active, we recommend you to go trekking; most of the routes are suitable for the whole family.

From the ecological walk above mentioned, to the Oltà mountain range, Bèrnia, the Molí del Quisi route or the route of the Riberers: all are beautiful routes where you will get to know old laundries, beautiful hermitages and panoramic views of the region.
