If you are in Calp during the second and third weekends of January, you must visit Benissa and enjoy its “Fira i Porrat de sant Antoni” (Fair), a fair which for years was the region´s trade centre, where livestock was exchanged. At present, it has fair attractions, the blessing of animals, livestock fairs, a medieval market and a wide range of cultural and sports activities.
Taking advantage of the fact that you are near Calp, in Benissa you can travel along the Benissa-Benimarco road and enjoy its almond trees in blossom. A beautiful landscape that must be photographed. If you fancy exploring the area, we recommend heading to Alcalalí, in the heart of Vall de Pop, the municipality commonwealth that Benissa belongs to. Each year, this municipality celebrates Feslalí, an event that seeks to showcase the almond trees in blossom.
One of the essential visits if you are in Benissa is the historic centre. Don´t miss out on the chance to stroll along La Puríssima and Desemparados streets, where you will find stately homes such as the House Palace of Los Andrés, the House-Palace of Los Torres Orduña and the Abargues House-Museum. Other buildings of interest are the Town Hall and the Church of Puríssima Xiqueta.
If you are in Benissa on the second Saturday of the month, head to the Mercat dels Porxes, a market that takes place in Jaume I Square (where the so-called “Porxes” were located in the past, the covered area for holding the market), which has local organic products and handicrafts.
