Enjoy its sea, its coves, its beach bars, its water sports. Discover its hinterland, with its trails, its secluded footpaths and wild fauna and flora you can see in Bèrnia, in Oltà and in La Solana.
We often hesitate as to where we should go on holidays. We hesitate about travelling to the seaside or to the mountains, about looking for a place where peace and quiet reign or perhaps to seek the hustle and bustle of festive, cultural and culinary events. Whether to go to the city or the countryside. And yet, other times, the decision is clear-cut. We would like a bit of everything.
If this applies to you, welcome to Benissa. We are waiting for you here year-round, beyond the excitement of summer. Indeed, our proposals are never stale and are renewed on a monthly basis, and you can experience the sea year-round, much like the countryside. Have you heard about the muscat trail? It delves into agricultural paths that cross our precious muscat grape vineyards. Do you know what the riuraus are? They are one of our distinctive features, rectangular buildings with arched porticoes that are typical of our region. These were originally used to dry raisins. Nowadays, they are the pride and joy of every historical town, and you will be able to see many of them as you hike through our rural districts.
You can also go and see the sunrise in one of the small coves on our coastline and feel in touch with nature, or look for the sunset in Bèrnia or in Oltà for a picture-perfect sight of this rocky land in which your sight always ends up lost in the Mediterranean.
Have you tried octopus stew? How about senyoret-style rice? You could go for a culinary sampling and then let the food settle in a hammock rocked by the soft Mediterranean breeze. And if it’s too warm in the daytime, you could enjoy the waning hours of the afternoon to go for a walk through the narrow, stone-paved streets of the historical town centre and to learn about our thousand-year-old history. It is excellently preserved. Many of its noble and stately homes are now museums or buildings that host municipal facilities, so you can visit them and take away authentic memories of the town’s history.
One thing is certain, if you decide to spend your holidays here, you will not have the time to get bored. However, you should leave your rush and tension aside. Breathe in the fresh air of the sea and the mountains and enjoy your own experience. Allow yourself to get carried away.
